YES Update - Yes Music in 2016 & Rock Hall of Fame Success (December 2016) |
|
The promise of 2016 was fulfilled to become one of the most exciting Yesyears for a long time, culminating in Yes being officially announced in December as an inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place in April 2017 and the Yes musicians inducted will be Jon Anderson, the late Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman, Alan White, Bill Bruford, Tony Kaye and Trevor Rabin. While this honour should have occurred years ago, it only emphasises the many great achievements of Yes as the band nears its fiftieth anniversary.
Yes started the year with a UK and European tour in April/May and a setlist including all of the "Drama" and "Fragile" albums. This was followed mid-year by a U.S. tour featuring the "Tales From Topographic Oceans" album and a brief tour of Japan in November. However, it's important to recognise that Yes these days is quite a different band with several of the best known and most influential Yes musicians no longer involved. The Yes lineup in 2016 was Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison & Billy Sherwood, augmented by drummer Jay Schellen who stood-in for Alan White after a back injury.
Jon Anderson delighted Yes fans everywhere by performing more shows in 2016 than he has for years, starting with being on the road in America with the Anderson Ponty Band in April/May. And if that wasn't enough, the new band formed by Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman (ARW) and managed by former Yes manager Brian Lane, finished off the year in style with an intensive U.S. tour to a host of glowing reviews. The other ARW band members were Lee Pomeroy (bass) & Lou Molino III (drums). It brought back memories of the successful ex-Yes ABWH collaboration in 1989, except that this time it marked the first occasion where there were effectively two different Yes bands (ie ARW and Yes) simultaneously touring in different parts of the world. The Extraordinary World of Yes indeed!
